Small Animal Clinical Diagnosis by Laboratory Methods 9781437706574 Medicine Health Science Books Reviews

  • I just graduated from veterinary school a few months ago and was nervous about seeing cases by myself. I bought this book to help me better understand what was going on with my diagnostic test results and was not disappointed. The book is arranged in chapters that correspond to various body systems and specific tests are very easy to find. Everything is laid out including how to run the test, what can increase or decrease a specific enzyme and what to rule in or out. Using the book I can go over an entire diagnostic panel and make up a treatment plan and feel confident that I am correct.
Overall this is an excellent reference and I think everyone from students to practitioners should have this in their library.
  • One of the reasons that I love this book and use it almost everyday is because it tells you every possible reason for any laboratory abnormality. An abnormal finding may not always be significant. Labs are not perfect and errors do occur. Also, the environment and handling of the sample could play a role in an abnormal result. It is well arranged and well indexed for quick lookup of any value. The one thing I had a little trouble finding was looking for some odd red blood cell shapes as they were not directly indexed. I feel that this is a great reference for any veterinary hospital and good book for veterinary students.
  • I really really like this book and cannot recommend it more. It is easy to use and read. It is a smaller paperback and doesn't take up too much space. I use it on a weekly basis, especially when I have lab values that I'm uncertain about. Overall, I'm very satisfied and am happy I purchased this book!
  • Excellent book. One of the most practical books I've ever read. Most references are from the recent years. I have read also the previous editions of this book. The text covers common and rare blood disorders and the coverage of each topic is comprehensive.
The information is presented in a logical and readable way, utilising bullet points, tables and diagrams very well.

  • This book is a great reference. It wont replace class notes or other full detail texts, but in a hurry, it's nice to have this broad range of information synthesized for me.
  • As a busy small animal veterinarian, I appreciate all the lists, tables, and algorithms contained in this book. I was pleasantly surprised that it contains a small toxicology section, too.

  • It is a decent book. I am taking Dr. Willard's class at TAMU soon and I have to have this book for his class. It was received in good condition.
  • The book is easy to use. You can look for one specific test or you can look into different diseases. It explains very extensively what kins of test results you can expect with different disease processes. There are a lot of charts that help you to come closer to a diagnosis. I bought another lab book first, but this one is the only one I use now.
