  • a wonderful book, well written, well researched.
  • I loved reading this book—it's clearly deeply researched, but it's definitely not for academics only. The descriptions of Ottoman picnics, the intricacies of palace cuisine, and early restaurants were so fun; I read this prior to a trip to Istanbul, and highly recommend it.
