• Nice size and seems geared toward kids. The book does not include the CD even though it advertises it does. I already knew that from other reviews, though. The first page shows you how to sit and how to number your fingers off, also shows where middle C is on your piano. The first large part of the book teaches the black keys. I had hoped it would teach the white first. I think this book will be a great addition, and really help our 9 year old learn. She will for sure need someone to help with some of the directions. Which, is what i would expect. But, just saying that, so you know what to expect when buying it. I plan to look into other series of teaching books as well. 4 stars for not coming with cd and correctly describing the books content.
• I love, love, love this series! I have been teaching private lesions for many years and Alfred does a respectable job of introducing students to piano. It uses an interval approach, helping students recognize where note are relatively, but also insisting on a recognition of note names. The lessons are very logically ordered and new concepts are revisited for weeks in the subsequent pieces, really solidifying them as you go.my only complaint would be their introduction of eighth notes seems a little short. I would like a lot more clap and count style exercise that have very simple notes, but lots of different rhythms using the new eighth notes, similar to what is found at the beginning of Book 2 with dotted notes.
• I have been teaching piano for 23 years. This is my go-to book for beginners ages 7-10. At the very first lesson the student is playing Jolly Old St. Nicholas and Old MacDonald which gets them excited to learn.
• Truly for the beginning student I am not a pianist nor have I ever learned to read music, so I cannot teach my children.
  My 8 year old has proceeded through this book on her own, at a pace of about 30 minutes a day for 6 days.
  My rule is that she practice each lesson 5 times. She can't get enough and keeps sneaking back to the piano to do the lessons over and over again. I'll be ordering the next book.
• Love this book. I am using it to teach my 6year old, and we are cruising through. This the very first book I used as she had never had piano lessons before and I am glad I started with this one. I bought a few other books, but I thought they would be a little difficult. I would definitely recommend this one here for beginners.
• Teaching my little ones with this trusty book. Remember this book when I was training on a Steinway and bound for some symphony one day. Didn't make it but understand its utility now, teaching my little tykes on our weighted key Yamaha keyboard.
• This book really knows how to teach young and beginner pianists music theory, and the songs in this book are appropriate for young children. It's a thin book with large display, so you won't have to squint your eyes to read the book. I totally recommend it!
• Perfect for beginning piano, easy to understand, the CD is fantastic for timing, I found it actually enjoyable and as I could play a few songs in a very short while, I felt like I had actually started to accompanish something I had always wanted to do.

• As with the other Dr. Seuss books, this is an excellent translation. Many children's books that are translated don't preserve all of the features of the original language, but the Dr. Seuss books translated by Yanitiza Canetti are excellent. Canetti is able to bring out all of the fun of the language that is so characteristic of Dr. Seuss stories - I highly recommend these for any children who would like these.

  my son and i love this book. we read at least one of the three stories every day. they all deal with the downfalls of greed, vanity, and arrogance in a light hearted and fun way. the spanish translation is awesome and has a cadence that makes it easy to read even for someone with beginner to intermediate spanish skills.
• A mis dos ninos (2.5 y 4.5 anos) les encantan las 3 historias de esto libro. A la mayor le gustan las rimas y el pequeno disfruta mucho de los dibujos. Es un libro muy divertido y educativo que sin duda ayudara mucho el aprendizaje de la idioma espanola. Y me encanta haber encontrado un libro que puedo leer a los dos a la misma vez.

• Well, it's official. Joanna Gaines is my spirit animal. This book is just as wholesome and lovely as you could possibly make a children's book. Some actual knowledge presented in a really cute, fun way. It has personality and comes from real life. It is inspiring and motivating to get the kids' hands in the dirt. This book did exactly to me what I feel pretty confident Joanna hoped it would do... And, of course, it is WAAAY too pretty to sit on a shelf somewhere. It's just begging to be displayed.

• This is the best book I've read on Lynyrd Skynyrd. I've read reviews of the band and short articles in magazines etc but nothing comes close to reading the history from someone who was actually there and survived the plane crash. Ronnie Van Zant was a genius when it came to (not) writing songs down. This is one band who's music will live forever. I've added this book to my collection of Biographies and Auto-biographies. It's right up there with Eric Clapton, Willie Nelson, The Allman Brothers, Suzi Quatro ,U2 and Charlie Daniels This is an awesome read and I highly recommend it to any Skynyrd fan.
• Gene Odom explains how this book came about. After the first of his books was published, he was hoping that someone would write a more detailed account of the band. When those hopes weren't realized, he wrote this book.
  
  The Prologue recounted some of the mechanical problems with the plane on the band's last few trips on tour leading up to the crash.
  
  This book had a lot of trivia type information about Lynyrd Skynyrd.
  Some of that information was
  *The source of the band's name,which is already widely-known.
  *Explains what the "bullets" in "Give Me Back My Bullets" actually were.
  *Who Curtis Lowe was.
  *The source for some of the lyrics, "Freebird" comes to mind.
  *The real reason behind the mention of Neil Young in "Sweet Home Alabama" and Young's reaction to it.
  *The identity of "the Swampers" from "Sweet Home Alabama."
  *Some of the musical influences on various band members were listed.
  
  This is an entertaining book that details some of the growing pains of early Lynyrd Skynyrd. He tells of the revolving door of members and some of the contributions those members made. Paticularly Ed King and Ricky Medlocke, who rejoined the latest version of the band. The many bass players that were involved over time and the dynamic additions of Steve Gaines and the female backup singers.
  The guidance from Al Kooper in the studio proved beneficial for the band.
  
  The rare, close partnership of Gary Rossington and Allen Collins really made the Skynyrd sound what it was from early on.
  
  The work ethic was lengendary and brutal. Ronnie Van Zant's financial management skills were detailed. He was the leader and the authors spend more time reminiscing about Van Zant because of it. I don't think that's detrimental to the book.
  
  The authors also told of some of the contemporary bands that Lynyrd Skynyrd had ties with, most notably the Allman Brothers Band and many musicians in the area.
  
  Another interesting aspect of the band was how Ronnie Van Zant went about putting the band together.
  
  "Lynyrd SkynyrdRemembering the Freebirds of Rock" is a no-frills book and it doesn't ignore ugly issues like drug use or the fights. None of the band members were saints. They were a very talented group of musicians that had the right music at precisely the right time.
  
  Gene Odom ends the book with the crash, the aftermath, and the events leading up to the reforming of Lynyrd Skynyrd.
  He also discusses three main theories on what could have caused the airplane to run out of fuel. That's a mystery in itself. The tragedy didn't end at the plane crash as surviving members have suffered various deaths and troubles later on.
  
  This is an entertaining biography of one of the classic southern rock bands that would be enjoyed by any Lynyrd Skynyrd fan.
• Anyone who loves Lynyrd Skynyrd and their music, you must read this book!! If I had Gene Odom's address, I would personally write him and thank him for sharing this part of his life he spent with Ronnie VanZant and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Not only was I able to get to "know" Ronnie VanZant and each member of the band, but I learned the messages/meanings/stories to/behind so many of their songs. Ronnie VanZant was an amazing artist; the music industry lost a great one back in October 1977. The musical talent he had for back-up was unbelievable. To have seen them in concert must have been an experience to never forget.
  Even though I knew the ending of the book would consist of telling the story of the fatal crash and the band losing Ronnie, Steve and Cassie Gaines and Dean Kilpatrick, I cried uncontrollably for at least an hour.
  People are often asked, if there was one person who has since deceased and you could spend a day with, well, I would want to spend a day with Ronnie VanZant, bass fishing and him hopefully sharing a few stories and maybe even talking a little music.

• Gene Odom grew-up with Ronnie Van Zant from early childhood; was his personal bodyguard, and head of security for Lynyrd Skynyrd. He personally knew all the players involved. He gives a genuine, firsthand account of life with the Lynyrd Skynyrd Band; backstage, on-the-road and behind the scenes. It's easy to feel the heartfelt love this man (Odom) has for his long lost friend, Ronnie Van Zant. My heart goes out to Mr. Odom because he feels he could've/should've done something more to have prevented the crash that shook the music world, devasted families, friends, and an ever-growing, faithful fan-base. It's good to learn that Mr. Odom has finally let go of feelings of guilt and responsibility -- he was a true friend to the end. This is one to read again and again. I couldn't put it down. • As someone who knew the VanZants way before there was a Lynyrd Skynyrd band, Gene Odum shares his recollections in a straight forward way without "embellishing" either the good or the bad. He tells it like it was. The good, the bad, and the ugly. Funny thing is, I actually lived just across Lake Shore Drive (on Quan Drive) from the VanZants from 1960 to 1962 and never knew it until Ronnie and the band hit the big time. Gene's unbiased bio of perhaps one of the most influential rock bands of the '70s is refreshing in it's simplicity and honesty.
• The author was a long-time associate of the band, and the book is well-researched. Even though it outlines a complete history of the band for the true fanatic, the reader never gets a complete picture of each member's personality. Minor events are explicated exhaustively, and major ones glossed over.
• This is an awesome book! It gives so much insight to the personalities and musical genius and talent of the group.
• Gets behind the scenes 2ith an upclose look of my favorite southern rockers!

• This book is great. It contains an overview of lots of common fonts, including examples of how they have been used in the real world. I did wish there were more fonts represented, but that would probably come at the expense of going as in-depth on each font, so I think the book strikes a good balance.
• Sean Adams has created a useful book to explain some of the practical reasons for using a particular typeface. Forty-eight faces, from serif to digital, are examined in six chapters and in two ways.
  
  First, he writes a very brief history of the face followed by two, three or four pages showing the face in use over a variety of mediums though most are printed examples. Secondly, at the end of each chapter, the faces are shown as complete caps and lower case alphabets (in twenty-one point I think) with the letters ARQGag enlarged so that the unique characteristics of each font can be indicated.
  
  These alphabet are four to a spread and are probably the most interesting pages in the book. Non-type folk would no doubt look at the sixteen sans serif faces and conclude they more or less look the same only to have keen typographers point out that a cap Q could, for example, have a horizontal tail (Avenir) a curved tail (EF Real Head) a hook tail (Franklin Gothic) a centred tail (News Gothic) or a forty-five degree tail (Futura).
  
  The forty-eight featured fonts are the author's choice and most designers would probably choose a few alternatives, I wouldn't have included Gill Sans preferring Folio and Century Old Style to Century Expanded. Oddly Helvetica Regular and Neue Haas Grotesk Regular are both included in the Sans Serif chapter and both faces really are virtually identical.
  
  The book is beautifully produced and a useful overview of basic types in everyday use. Design school students in particular would find it a good introduction to the subject.

• Love the book and concept...however, nothing turns me off faster than reading away and hitting a roadblock that catches my eye and brain such as a grammatical error or punctuation where it shouldn’t be...it interferes with my flow of reading and learning...just a few pages in...I had to stop twice and re read what I read to find it isn’t me, but mistakes in the (publishing ?).
  
  If you want to write a book to affect powerful people, be powerful yourself in making sure there are no mistakes when published.
• Grammatical issues aside I was hoping for a little more insight and in formation about affirmations. (they were very short and simplistic) The emphasis seems to be on woman's rights more than on affirmations and manifesting. Yes, strong woman and their accomplishments are inspiring but this doesn't seem to relate to the average woman enough for my taste. I am all for activism but maybe a book on affirmations is not an appropriate platform. There are some great quotes and inspiring stories - if that's what you're interested in this is an excellent resource.
• Clear your mind of preconceived notions of "badass". Devour the affirmations in this writing. Apply these to your life and your life only. In so doing, you will gain deeper insight into who you are and the courage to become who you wish to be.
• I found the text encouraging and I like the idea of having a quick look into the lives of women who have shown courage. The quotations were inspirational. In actuality, I liked the premise and the title better than the book, but it had its moments and was still worth the read.
• The book was not what I originally was looking for but it turned out to be a good quick read. The book is.more of a confidence booster than a knowledge gainer.
• I bought the kindle version of this book. I am finding it really cool. I like the short tidbits about amazing women... Some well-known and others more obscure to me. I like how the affirmations are interspersed - some are common and other feel particularly powerful for women. I am going to send one to my best friends across the country from me. She is badass and sometimes needs a reminder, too! I think it would look pretty good on a bookshelf. )
